Karpoich’s Hat Trick Powers Tigers Past Chiefs

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (LISN) — Sophomore Owen Karpoich netted a hat trick to propel the Northport/Huntington Tigers (6-8) to a 5-4 victory over the East Islip Chiefs (6-8).

Sophomore Justin Cahn added a goal and two assists to support the Tigers’ offense.

Freshman Jose Walter made his first career goal one to remember, scoring the eventual game-winner on the power play.

Junior Brett Kostor earned his third win through five starts in net for the Tigers.

Senior Patrick O’Shea made his 10th start in goal for the Chiefs.

Junior Logan Barton scored his 8th goal of the season at 7:52 in the 1st period to make it 1-0 Chiefs.

Karpoich responded for the Tigers at 6:20 in the opening stanza to tie the game 1-1.

Senior Kieran Freelin scored his second of the season on the power play at 4:56 in the first frame to put the Chiefs up 2-1.

Karpoich tied the at 9:50 in the 2nd period to make it a 2-2 game.

Junior Peter Marazzito gave the Chiefs the lead again at 8:48 in the second stanza.

Karpoich scored his 11th of the season, his third on the power play, at 4:53 in the middle frame to complete the hat trick and give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.

Under a minute later, Walter extended the Tigers’ lead to 5-3.
