Friars Three-Headed Monster Blanks Patriots
HAUPPAUGE N.Y. (LISN) — Junior Jordan Valcich started between the pipes, Senior Dom Feiler got the nod in net for the second stanza, and Senior Nick Tempone closed things out in goal as the St. Anthony’s Friars (5-0) took down Ward Melville (1-4) in a 6-0 shutout victory.
Senior Brody O’Doherty scored the game winning goal for St. Anthony’s. Junior Christian Buttacavoli scored his first career varsity goal.
Junior Zack Sirel had a hat-trick in the 3rd period. Junior Tommy Azzariti scored once in a two point performance.
Junior Mauricio Carrasco Jr. picked up two assists in the Friars win, the first two points of his varsity career.
Junior Max Blasberg made his SCHSHL debut for the Ward Melville Patriots. Blasberg allowed just one goal in the first two periods before St. Anthony’s scored five times in the final frame.
O’Doherty scored r with 4:26 left in the 1st period to make it 1-0 Friers. The Friars blue liner darted up ice, left two defenders in the dust, and went bar down.
Sirel scored a wraparound goal to make it a two score game with 11:53 remaining in the 3rd period.
Buttacavoli made it 3-0 Friars with 5:28 left in the frame. The Junior blue liner walked in, took a shot from the right point, and it deflected off two Patriots before the puck ended up in the back of the net.
38 seconds later, a shot by Junior James Schendorf was redirected past Blasberg by Azzariti.
Sirel scored a breakaway goal with 2:35 left in regulation. Carrasco Jr. threaded the needle on a pass to Sirel, who weaved through multiple defenders before going forehand-backhand.
Less than a minute later, Sirel scored on a shot from the slot to complete the hat-trick and make it 6-0 Friars.
