Friars Defeat Lions
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (LISN) — Junior Tommy Azzariti completed the hat-trick in a five point performance as the St. Anthony’s Friars (4-0) won 13-2 over the West Islip Lions (0-4). Junior Anthony Cutalo scored the shorthanded, game winning goal. Cutalo finished with two goals and two assists on the night. Senior Ryan Leon finished with a hat-trick of his own.
Senior Dom Feiler allowed two goals against in his second win of the season. Junior Nick Busa finished with two goals and an assist. Senior Ciaran Pollard and Sophomore James Barbieri scored for West Islip in the 3rd period. Junior Colin Hovanec started in goal for West Islip.
Azzariti scored 52 seconds into the opening frame to make it 1-0 St. Anthony’s. Azzariti redirected a shot from the point by Junior Zack Sirel past Hovanec.
Cutalo scored an unassisted goal with 10:23 left in the 1st period. Cutalo dangled through three West Islip defenders, and went five-hole.
Cutalo potted an unassisted, shorthanded goal with 7:11 to go to make it 3-0. Cutalo danced through defenders and went top cheddar.
Leon scored on a shot from the slot with 5:48 remaining in the first stanza. 36 seconds later, Senior Vito Sacino scored his first career varsity goal. Busa scored a shorthanded, breakaway goal for St. Anthony’s with 1:18 remaining in the frame.
Busa scored his second of the night with 9:54 left in the second stanza. Leon scored 48 seconds later to make it 8-0.
Azzariti scored his second of the game, the third Friars goal under two minutes, with 8:14 left in the period.
Senior Brody O’Doherty scored his second of the season with 4:40 to go in the second frame. 34 seconds later Azzariti completed the hat-trick to make it 9-0.
Pollard put the Lions on the board with 11:50 left in the 3rd period to make it 11-1. Pollard blew by three Friars and went top shelf.
Senior Will Bisogno scored his second of the season with 9:20 left in the period.
Barbieri sniped top shelf for his first of the season with 5:18 left in the period to make it 12-2.
A minute later, Leon answered back to make it 13-2.
