Flanagan Posts Shutout as Listowel Dominates Saugeen Valley 4-0
Harold Flanagan turned away every shot he faced to record a shutout, leading Listowel to a commanding 4-0 victory over Saugeen Valley in NYIHSHL tournament action Saturday at Tara Community Centre. The Listowel netminder was barely tested in earning the clean sheet, as his team controlled play from the opening faceoff.
Listowel exploded for three goals in a dominant first period that essentially decided the contest. The scoring barrage began at 1:14 and continued with tallies at 1:52 and 9:34, the latter standing as the game-winner. Drew Smith paced the offensive attack with a goal and an assist for two points, while Elliot Hyatt, Kaden Zwygers, and Jayden Martin each found the back of the net with unassisted markers.
The middle frame saw both teams settle into a defensive battle, with neither side able to break through despite continued pressure from Listowel. Saugeen Valley struggled to generate sustained offensive pressure throughout the contest, managing minimal shots against Flanagan’s goal.
Listowel added an insurance marker 8:16 into the third period to cap the scoring, with their fourth different goal scorer finding the net unassisted. Warren Van Loo faced a difficult afternoon in the Saugeen Valley crease, surrendering four goals on limited shot data. The victory advances Listowel in the tournament bracket while sending Saugeen Valley home after the comprehensive defeat.
