Bulls Roll Past Chiefs
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (LISN) — Senior Shane Reidy delivered a hat trick in a five-point performance as the Smithtown/Hauppauge Bulls (12-1) rolled past the East Islip Chiefs (6-7) in a decisive 8-0 victory.
Senior David Wetzel scored twice, including the game-winning goal, to power the Bulls’ offense.
Senior Max Campo contributed a goal and two assists to the commanding performance.
Senior Aidan Halliday backstopped the Bulls to his first shutout victory of the season and has now won seven of his first eight starts in net.
Senior Patrick O’Shea made his ninth start between the pipes for the Chiefs.
Thirty-seven seconds into the game, Wetzel opened the scoring to make it 1-0 Bulls. The senior defenseman led the breakout, streaked up ice, and tucked it home off a pass from Senior Gavin Bareham.
Reidy doubled the Bulls’ lead with 9:50 remaining in the first period. Junior Dean Falcone made a behind-the-back pass from beneath the goal line to Reidy for a tap-in.
Senior Michael Wagner rifled a rebound home for his fourth goal of the season at 8:57 in the opening stanza.
Wetzel struck with his second of the night and seventh of the season with 3:25 left in the first frame to make it 4-0 Bulls. The former SCHSHL All-Star went end-to-end, rolled around the cage, made an escape turn, and sniped top cheddar.
Campo scored at 12:30 in the third period, netting his 13th goal of the season. Reidy made a drop pass to Falcone, who slid it to the doorstep for a redirect by Campo.
Reidy buried a rebound for his second of the game with 6:00 remaining to make it 6-0.
Just 21 seconds later, Reidy netted his 13th goal of the year to complete the hat trick with 5:39 left. Campo made a cross-ice stretch pass to Reidy, who sniped top shelf.
Junior Brayden Beltrani capped the scoring with 2:01 remaining, netting a short-handed goal—his fifth of the campaign. Beltrani blew by the defender and went glove-side high.
