Bulls Blow By Lions

Senior Ray Sherwood scored two power play goals including the game winner as the Smithtown-Hauppauge Bulls (1-0) defeated the West Islip Lions (0-1) 9-1. Senior Aidan Halliday allowed one goal against in a winning performance for Smithtown-Hauppauge. Sophomore Tyler Sapoff made a series of sensational saves in the early going, with  Smithtown-Hauppauge scoring four of their nine goals on the power play. 

Senior Gavin Bareham opened the scoring to put Smithtown-Hauppauge up 1-0 with 7:15 to go in the first frame. Junior Connor Dubeau threaded the needle to the front of the net for Senior Shane Reidy, who slid it across to Bareham for a back door tap in. 

Sherwood scored the game winner on the power play 26 seconds into the second stanza. Sherwood walked the line and fired a shot through traffic that beat Sapoff, after receiving a pass off the wall from Bareham.  

Senior Max Campo netted his first of the campaign with 14:00 left in the 2nd period to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead. Campo buried a rebound off a shot by Senior J.P. D’Allessandro with Reidy picking up the secondary assist. 

Senior Brendan Landrigan, scored his first goal as Bulls captain with 7:57 left in the second stanza. Dubeau made a stretch pass to Junior Brayden Beltrani, who entered the zone 2 on 1. Beltrani made a backhanded pass to Brendan Landrigan, who went forehand-backhand to beat Sapoff as he slid right-to-left.

Sophomore Aidan Landrigan scored his first career varsity goal on the power play with 5:23 remaining in the 2nd period to put the Bulls up by five. D’Allessandro forced a turnover inside the West Islip zone, poking it to Brendan Landrigan. The captain put a pass on his younger brother Aidan’s backhand, and the sophomore sniper brought it to his forehand before sniping glove side high. 

19 seconds later, Campo potted his second of the night for Smithtown-Hauppauge. Reidy made a lead pass to D’Allessandro, who found Campo streaking up the ice to score on a breakaway. 

Senior Charlie Samlamone scored his first career varsity goal on the power play to put West Islip on the board with 1:33 remaining. Senior Nick Perpall made a backhand feed to the slot that was deflected before Salamone fired the bouncing puck past Halliday to break the shutout. 

Dubeau put the Bulls back up by six with 9:03 remaining in the 3rd period. Dubeau went coast-to-coast, deking out multiple defenders before dangling forehand-backhand for a highlight reel goal.

Sherwood scored his second of the game on the power play with 4:22 to go in the final frame. Beltrani made a drop pass to Dubeau, who made another drop pass for Sherwood to snipe stick side high in his first career two goal game for the Bulls.

Reidy made it 9-1 Bulls with 2:40 left in regulation. Senior Andre McGraime broke up a pass inside the Lions zone before the captain collected the puck and fired a shot that Reidy redirected past Sapoff.
