Holy smokes, what a game at the Ice Hutch! The Fordham Rams just delivered an absolute clinic in clutch hockey, taking down Fairfield 4-3 in what had to be one of the most entertaining ECHC matchups of the season. This was revenge served cold after Fairfield embarrassed them 4-3 back on December 5th, and boy did the Rams make it count when it mattered most.
Andrew Carlson was absolutely dialed in for Fordham, potting two goals to lead the offensive charge. Coming into this game with 5 goals in just 6 games played, Carlson has been an absolute weapon for the Rams all season long. But the real story here is Lucas Scairetta putting together a monster performance with a goal and two assists for three points – that’s the kind of complete game that wins you hockey games in January.
The supporting cast stepped up huge for Fordham too. Danny Koehler, who’s been putting up video game numbers with 21 points in 14 games entering tonight, added another goal to his ridiculous season total. Meanwhile, Declan Pierce (4 assists in 4 games coming in) and Christian Soropoulos each chipped in with assists to keep the offense rolling. Even depth guys like Carmine Pittelli and Piotr Kszczot got on the scoresheet – that’s championship-level depth right there.
Between the pipes, Daniel Gerts was absolutely spectacular for the Rams, turning away 39 of 42 shots for a .929 save percentage. When you’re facing 42 shots against and still walking away with the W, you know your goalie stood on his head. Gerts kept Fordham in this game when things got dicey and gave his team every chance to win.
This victory moves Fordham to 9-4 on the season and proves they’re for real in the ECHC. Yeah, Fairfield came in with a perfect 3-1 record, but the Rams just showed why experience matters in college hockey. When you can get contributions from seven different players and your goalie plays like a brick wall, you’re going to win a lot of hockey games.
The Ice Hutch was absolutely rocking tonight, and Fordham gave their fans exactly what they wanted – a statement win against a quality opponent. This Rams team is starting to look like they could make some serious noise come playoff time.
