Sacred Heart University’s ACDC A squad delivered a statement performance Saturday night at Ice Vault Arena, overwhelming previously red-hot Ramapo College 7-3 in a crucial ECHC matchup that shook up the conference standings. The Pioneers’ seven-goal barrage snapped Ramapo’s impressive 12-2 start to the season and marked their most dominant offensive showing of the campaign.
Ramapo entered the contest as one of the hottest teams in the ACHA, boasting a stellar .857 winning percentage through 14 games. Leading scorer Michael Ferrante, who came in with 32 points in 13 games, continued his torrid pace with a two-goal performance that extended his season totals to 17 goals and 19 assists. The senior forward received support from veteran contributors Brian Atwell and Angelo LaCognata, who each added assists, with LaCognata extending his point streak while maintaining his team-leading 23 points entering the night.
Despite Ferrante’s heroics and solid contributions from the supporting cast, Ramapo couldn’t overcome Sacred Heart’s relentless attack. Roadrunners goaltender Talon Muscolino faced a season-high 34 shots but struggled to contain the Pioneers’ balanced offensive assault, posting a .794 save percentage in the defeat. The loss marked just Ramapo’s third of the season and their most lopsided defeat of what had been a dominant campaign.
Sacred Heart’s victory improved their record to 9-4 and delivered a significant boost in the competitive ECHC race. The Pioneers’ ability to solve Muscolino, who had been solid between the pipes for much of Ramapo’s strong start, demonstrated the offensive depth that could make them dangerous as the season progresses toward the playoffs.
