Cold Spring Harbor turned Tuesday night into a scoring showcase at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, overwhelming Oceanside 13-2 in a NYIHSHL regular season clash that saw two players reach milestone performances. Henry Whelan recorded his first hat trick of the season while adding two assists for a five-point night, while teammate Waylon Helfer matched that output with two goals and three assists in the 15-goal affair.
The Seahawks (14-2) wasted no time establishing dominance, erupting for five unanswered goals in the opening period. Helfer, who entered the game with a team-leading 39 goals and 62 points in 15 games, opened the scoring at 12:55 with assists from Joseph Jalbert and Whelan. The duo connected again moments later when Whelan found the net at 11:51, beginning what would become a dominant individual performance. Chase Lawniczak‘s goal at 6:12 proved to be the game-winner, while John Nielsen and Helfer added late-period tallies to send Cold Spring Harbor into intermission with a commanding 5-0 advantage.
The second period saw both teams find the scoresheet, but Cold Spring Harbor maintained its relentless pace. Whelan completed his hat trick with goals at 12:56 and 12:07, both assisted by his linemate Helfer, showcasing the chemistry between the dynamic duo. Nathaniel Mehlrose, Jack Gimbel, Nielsen, and Jack Macaluso also tallied for the Seahawks, while Oceanside finally broke through with goals from Devin Greene and Logan Gonzalez to avoid the shutout.
Robert Paduano capped the scoring explosion with two third-period goals, both assisted by Jack Gimbel, who finished with three points on the night. Cold Spring Harbor’s balanced attack saw 10 different players register at least one point, while goaltender Brendan O’Connor earned the victory with eight saves on 10 shots. The lopsided result further solidified Cold Spring Harbor’s position as a NYIHSHL contender, while Oceanside (4-12) continues to search for consistency in what has been a challenging campaign.
