Sachem Freshman broke open a scoreless game with a devastating four-goal second period, cruising to a 6-1 victory over winless Northport Huntington Freshman Blue on Wednesday night at South. The explosive middle frame turned what had been a defensive battle into a rout, as Sachem improved to 8-12 while Northport Huntington remained winless at 0-17.
Chase Gandolfo orchestrated the offensive explosion with a three-point performance, recording one goal and two assists to lead all scorers. The dynamic forward, who entered the game with 12 goals and 11 assists in 16 games, set up Tyler Rosado‘s opening goal at 12:15 of the second period before assisting on Luca Guiliano‘s game-winner at 7:47. Tyler Rosado capped his two-goal night with 1:03 remaining in the third period, with Gandolfo‘s linemate Dylan Mazal providing helpers on both third-period tallies.
The second-period avalanche continued with goals from Justin Bovich and Joseph Capozzoli Jr just 16 seconds apart, transforming a tight contest into a 4-0 advantage. Bovich, who had tallied five goals and four assists in 15 games entering the night, finished off a James Oconnor feed at 5:51, while Capozzoli Jr converted a Mason Mangani assist at 5:35 for his first goal of the season. Henry Alfano provided Northport Huntington’s lone highlight with his third-period goal assisted by Nicholas Tiso and Connor Frey, but it proved too little too late against a Sachem squad that had reversed the script from their previous 5-4 meeting in November.
The victory marked a significant turnaround for Sachem, who entered having dropped four of their last five games, while Northport Huntington’s search for their first win of the season continues with the regular season winding down.
