Fairfield University’s M2 squad survived a wild offensive showcase Friday night, outlasting the University of New Haven 10-6 in a 16-goal thriller at The Rinks at Shelton. The victory improved Fairfield to 2-0 in their early season campaign while handing New Haven (9-7) just their seventh loss in 16 games.
Despite the defeat, New Haven’s offensive stars continued their torrid pace. Anthony Rosa, who entered the night leading the team with 49 points in 19 games, added three more points with a goal and two assists. Michael Madera matched that output with his own three-point performance (1G, 2A), extending his season total to 43 points in what was just his 16th game. The dynamic duo has been carrying New Haven’s attack all season, combining for 89 points entering Friday’s contest.
The Chargers spread their offensive wealth throughout the lineup, with seven different players finding the scoresheet. Dave Brown contributed two points on a goal and assist, while Trent Macri continued his strong play since returning to the lineup, adding two assists to improve his limited sample size to eight points in just six games. Role players Giancarlo Montanaro, Jimmy Brady, and Ryan O’Shea each found the back of the net in the high-scoring affair.
New Haven goaltender Logan Toussaint faced a barrage all night, stopping 57 of 67 shots for an .851 save percentage in the losing effort. The 16 combined goals marked one of the highest-scoring games in recent MCHC history, showcasing the offensive firepower both teams possess as conference play continues to heat up.
