Sean Wohlgemuth recorded a shutout, and Smithtown/Hauppauge Red (JV) scored three times in the first two periods to beat Kings Park/Commack (JV) 3-0 on Friday night at The Rinx – North Rink. Smithtown/Hauppauge Red controlled possession from the opening shift and improved to 2-0-0-0 on the season.
The visitors scored early. Alexander Losito beat Carson Esturo on a shot through traffic with 14:29 left in the first period, an unassisted goal that stood as the game-winner and was Losito’s first of the season. Smithtown/Hauppauge Red kept Kings Park/Commack pinned in its own end for much of the period but went to intermission with a 1-0 lead.
Jaxson Dorrien made it 2-0 with 10:46 left in the second, cleaning up a rebound for his first goal of the season, with Dillon Dubeau picking up the assist. Joseph Costa followed with 6:05 remaining in the period. He finished a feed from Matthew Ackerman to cap a long offensive-zone possession, and the crowd responded loudly to each goal. Later in the second, Smithtown/Hauppauge Red’s penalty kill broke up passes and cleared the puck with purpose to protect its three-goal cushion.
Wohlgemuth and the defense in front of him held Kings Park/Commack scoreless through a physical third period that included several misconducts. Aiden Marchese showed speed and strong edge work for Kings Park/Commack, but he could not get on the board. Esturo took the loss after allowing three goals and was recognized as Kings Park/Commack’s player of the game. Kings Park/Commack kept him in net through the final minutes despite the three-goal deficit.
Kings Park/Commack fell to 1-2-0-0. Smithtown/Hauppauge Red will try to stay unbeaten in its next outing.
