Five different players scored as the Peconic Wildcats 14U Gold – Pereira beat the NYC Cyclones 14U Gold – A 5-2 in LIAHL 14U Gold play Sunday at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers. Anthony Esposito, Casey Twigg Jr, Jordan Pereira, Benjamin Gallo and Vincent Troccoli each scored once for the Wildcats, who outshot the Cyclones 48-21.
After a scoreless first period, Peconic outscored NYC 2-1 in the second to take a 2-1 lead into the third. The Wildcats pulled away in the final period, outscoring the Cyclones 3-1.
Eitan Denman and Dylan Palmer scored for NYC. Cyclones goaltender Victoria Estrada made 43 saves on 48 shots and took the loss. At the other end, Colton Sganga stopped 19 of 21 shots to earn the win for Peconic.
The teams combined for eight minor penalties. Pereira, Gallo, Carter Vernillo, Zachary Peragine and Sean Raber each took two minutes for the Wildcats. Zev Coddington, Jamie Oh and Gabriel Jimenez-Halperin each served two minutes for the Cyclones.
Peconic improved to 2-0-1-0, while NYC fell to 0-2-0-0 as it looks for its first win of the season.
