The Ugly Pucklings improved to 2-0 with a dominant 6-0 victory over Draft Team on Saturday at Northwell Health Ice Center, part of the Long Island Warriors Summer Shootout. Anthony Gandolfi turned in a shutout in net, going the distance without allowing a goal as the Pucklings improved on their 1-0 start to the season.
The Pucklings wasted little time putting the game away, scoring three times in the first period. Costa Spanos, who entered the game with a goal from his season opener, opened the scoring, and Bryan Garczynski and Nick Pereira followed with goals of their own — the latter assisted by Jay Badder — to make it 3-0 before the period was over. The Pucklings did not let up in the second, as Adam Hojnacki and Mike Gandolfi struck 18 seconds apart, with Hojnacki setting up Gandolfi’s goal after James Walkley had assisted on his own. Gandolfi entered the night with a goal and an assist through one game and now has multiple points across his first two appearances.
Keith Cheng closed out the scoring in the third period, netting an unassisted goal at 13:01 to cap the 6-0 final. Cheng and Hojnacki each finished with a goal and an assist to lead all Pucklings skaters, while six different players found the scoresheet in the win. Draft Team’s lone penalty came from Michelle Lange, who was called for tripping in the first period, but the Pucklings were unable to convert on the ensuing chance.
Jeremy Sepulveda took the loss in net for Draft Team, which fell to 0-2 on the season after allowing all six goals. The Pucklings will look to carry their offensive balance into their next matchup as they push for more wins in the Summer Shootout, while Draft Team will look to regroup and find its first win of the tournament.
