Christopher Urso posted the shutout and St. Anthony’s scored in every situation in a 5-0 win over Northport/Huntington on Sunday night at The Rinx – North Rink. Jake Evans had a goal and two assists, and St. Anthony’s improved to 3-0-0-0 with its first shutout of the season. The game was a rematch of last season’s first-round playoff meeting, which St. Anthony’s won 3-2. Student sections on both sides were loud from the opening faceoff.
Dominic Tartaglia opened the scoring with 8:10 left in the first period, finishing a feed from Nicholas Mueller for what held up as the game-winner. Northport/Huntington’s defense kept pushing back, but Patrick Darby made it 2-0 with 1:36 left in the period. He worked through traffic for an unassisted goal and was an active forechecker and puck carrier throughout the night. Rex Moscati’s rebound control and positioning kept Northport/Huntington within reach in the early going.
Andrew Cevallos stretched the lead to 3-0 with 9:56 left in the second. He finished a three-on-two rush by wrapping the puck around the net, with Evans earning the assist. Cevallos showed speed and persistence driving the net all game. Northport/Huntington generated some dangerous chances, including on the power play, but Urso stayed steady in net and kept the visitors’ lead intact.
Evans pushed the margin to 4-0 with an unassisted shorthanded goal with 10:22 left in the third. Benjamin Caraher capped the scoring on the power play with 4:15 remaining, assisted by Evans and Nicholas Lawlor. Evans entered the night with two goals in one game, and he was the only player on either side with more than one point. Caraher came in with four points in two games. Physical play escalated in the third period, with seven minor penalties called in that period alone, though the game never boiled over.
St. Anthony’s has followed an 8-4 opening win and a 4-3 overtime win over Smithtown with this shutout. Northport/Huntington fell to 0-3-0-0 after being shut out for the second time in three games. Both teams will look to build on this result in their next games.
