Aiden Kollmar scored twice and added two assists, and St. Anthony’s Black (JV) answered a last-second West Islip equalizer with six unanswered goals in a 7-1 win over West Islip (JV) on Sunday at The Rinx – North Rink. Liam Healy and Giancarlo Femia each added two goals for St. Anthony’s Black, which improved to 1-0-1-0.
Femia opened the scoring with 10:52 left in the first period, cashing in on a rebound during a scramble in front with Andrew Stefanucci picking up the assist. West Islip pulled even with one second left in the period. Thomas Paniccia’s first attempt didn’t connect, but he gathered the puck and finished on the backhand to tie it 1-1, drawing a loud cheer from the crowd heading into intermission.
St. Anthony’s Black took control in the second. Shortly after killing off a penalty, Thomas Kelly fought through traffic for a loose puck in front and scored with 5:39 left, with Charles Sallese assisting, to make it 2-1. That goal stood as the winner. Healy, who entered with a goal and two assists in his only game, then struck twice in the final minute of the period. He scored off a Kollmar feed with 57 seconds remaining and added an unassisted goal with eight seconds left to make it 4-1.
Kollmar’s skating and puck control through traffic stood out all game, and he pushed the lead to 5-1 with an unassisted goal 13:06 from the end of regulation, prompting a West Islip timeout. The pause did not slow St. Anthony’s possession game, which kept pressure at the net front throughout. Kollmar set up Femia’s second goal with 4:12 left, then capped the scoring on the power play with 10 seconds remaining, sending a shot top shelf that slipped in under the post.
Brandon Hujber allowed one goal in the win for St. Anthony’s Black, and Michael Elco, who came up with a diving stop on a breakaway, was charged with seven goals against in the loss. West Islip fell to 0-2-0-0, while St. Anthony’s Black looks to build on its first win of the season.
