Brewer Spinella delivered a spectacular six-goal performance to lead Longwood Freshman White to a dominant 10-4 victory over Middle Country Freshman at North on Sunday, completing a season sweep and showcasing the offensive firepower that has defined their campaign. The junior forward’s game-winner came at 1:20 of the second period, but it was his relentless scoring throughout the contest that turned what began as a lopsided affair into an absolute rout.
Longwood exploded out of the gate with a devastating first period, racing to a 4-0 lead behind Spinella‘s natural hat trick and Sebastian Aravena‘s quick-strike double. Spinella opened the scoring at 9:33 with help from Aravena, then struck again just over a minute later off a Peter O’Sullivan feed. Aravena answered back with consecutive goals at 5:55 and 5:31, the latter assisted by Ryan Fredriksen, as the visitors completely overwhelmed Middle Country’s defense in the opening frame.
Middle Country showed resilience in the second period, with Derek Johnson and Zachary Maresca scoring 36 seconds apart midway through the frame to cut the deficit to 4-2. Jack Conlon assisted on both tallies, continuing his strong playmaking performance. However, Spinella’s unassisted goal at 1:20 restored Longwood’s commanding lead and proved to be the game-winner, effectively ending any hopes of a Middle Country comeback.
The third period belonged entirely to Longwood, as they poured in five more goals while allowing just two. Spinella completed his remarkable night with three more tallies, all unassisted, while Joseph Gnolfo and O’Sullivan also found the net. Despite Johnson and Conlon each recording four-point nights for Middle Country (Johnson with 2G-2A, Conlon with 1G-3A), their efforts were overshadowed by Spinella’s historic performance and Longwood’s balanced attack.
The victory improved Longwood Freshman White to 12-8 on the season while dropping Middle Country to 9-11, with the visitors avenging their 1-0 loss from October and demonstrating the offensive growth that has made them one of the SCHSHL’s most dangerous scoring teams down the stretch.
