Smithtown/Hauppauge (VR) scored six unanswered goals in the third period to erupt past Sachem (VR) 6-3 on Wednesday at The Rinx – North Rink, turning a 2-0 deficit into a lopsided win. The victory pushed Smithtown/Hauppauge to 13-1 while Sachem dropped to 9-4.
Sachem carried the game into the third period after a scoreless first and a second-period surge from Kevin Lysohir and Joseph Wandling. Lysohir opened the scoring at 9:56 of the second on assists from Cameron Kalberer, and Wandling followed with a power-play goal at 1:33 to make it 2-0. Lysohir added a power-play goal of his own in the third to give him a two-goal, three-point night, continuing a strong stretch that had him at 11 goals and 17 points in seven games entering the contest.
But the third period belonged to Smithtown/Hauppauge. Shane Reidy struck twice within the frame, scoring at 14:47 and again at 12:17, both assisted by Max Campo, pushing his season totals into rarefied territory after entering the night with 35 points in 13 games. Gavin Bareham scored unassisted at 12:54, and Brendan Landrigan netted the go-ahead goal at 11:54 with helpers from Aidan Landrigan and Bareham. Michael Wagner extended the lead moments later, and Raymond Sherwood capped the outburst with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
Jack Pring earned the win in net for Smithtown/Hauppauge, with Aidan Halliday also seeing time and allowing three goals. Michael DiGirolamo took the loss for Sachem, which had built an early lead behind Lysohir and Wandling before the collapse. The result also completed a season sweep of Sachem for Smithtown/Hauppauge, who beat Sachem 4-2 back on October 14.
With just a handful of games remaining before the season winds down, Smithtown/Hauppauge will look to carry this third-period explosion into its final stretch, while Sachem will need to regroup after squandering an early two-goal cushion.
