Shane Reidy scored a hat trick and set up two more goals to finish with five points as Smithtown/Hauppauge (VR) blanked East Islip (VR) 8-0 on Wednesday at The Rinx – North Rink. The win kept Smithtown/Hauppauge, now 11-1 on the season, rolling as it heads toward the stretch run.
Smithtown/Hauppauge wasted little time putting the game away, scoring four times in the first period. Michael Wagner opened the scoring at 8:57, and David Wetzel bookended the period with two goals — his first at 3:25 and the game-winner at 14:23, assisted by Gavin Bareham and Brendan Landrigan. Reidy also got on the board in the first, scoring unassisted at 9:50 to make it a four-goal frame for Smithtown/Hauppauge.
After a scoreless second period, Smithtown/Hauppauge closed the game out with another four-goal third. Max Campo scored at 12:30 with helpers from Dean Falcone and Reidy, and Reidy struck twice more in the span of 21 seconds, both assisted by Campo, to complete his hat trick. Brayden Beltrani added a shorthanded goal at 2:01 off a Reidy assist to cap the scoring. Campo finished with three points on a goal and two assists, while Beltrani chipped in a goal and an assist.
Jack Pring recorded the shutout in net for Smithtown/Hauppauge, with Aidan Halliday also seeing time and keeping East Islip off the board. Joseph Sasso took the loss for East Islip, allowing all eight goals before Patrick O’Shea finished out the game. The result mirrored Smithtown/Hauppauge’s 11-1 win over East Islip back on Oct. 9, extending its dominance in the season series.
With just a handful of games remaining, Smithtown/Hauppauge will look to carry this offensive surge into the final stretch, while East Islip, now 6-6, will regroup and try to close the season on a stronger note.
