Maximus Scotti delivered a dominant seven-point performance, netting five goals and adding two assists to lead Smithtown FR Red to an 11-4 victory over Middle Country Freshman at South on Wednesday night. The junior forward’s hat trick was just the beginning of a historic offensive explosion that saw him score in all three periods, including the game-winning goal with 14 seconds remaining in the opening frame.
Smithtown FR Red (17-2) wasted no time establishing control, jumping out to a 5-1 first-period lead behind three goals from Scotti and strong support from linemates Madden Catalanotto and Michael Napolitano, who combined for four assists in the opening frame. The dominant performance was a complete reversal from their previous meeting on March 25, when Middle Country Freshman had managed a 4-3 upset victory.
The offensive onslaught continued in the second period as Scotti completed his hat trick and added two more goals, while Jack Orth contributed his second goal of the game. Despite Madison Dechiaro‘s best efforts for Middle Country Freshman (9-10), recording two goals and an assist to pace his team’s attack, the visitors couldn’t match Smithtown’s relentless offensive pressure that produced 11 goals on just even-strength situations.
The third period saw both teams trade goals as the outcome was well decided, with Nicolas Beccarelli and Orth adding insurance markers for Smithtown while the Dechiaro brothers, Madison and Dylan, accounted for both Middle Country goals. The 15-goal affair showcased the offensive talent throughout both rosters, but it was Scotti’s record-setting night that stole the show as Smithtown FR Red bounced back emphatically from their earlier season loss to the same opponent.
