Sachem (JV) got goals from four different players and nine players with a point in a 4-0 win over Northport/Huntington (JV) on Monday night at The Rinx – South Rink. Ryan Bello was credited with the shutout and the win as Sachem scored twice in each of the final two periods.
Neither side scored in the first period. Northport/Huntington killed off Sachem’s full five-minute major power play, clearing the zone systematically and forechecking aggressively to keep the game scoreless into the second period.
Andrew McCarthy broke through with 11:16 left in the second, finishing Sachem’s best sustained sequence of the night with a quick release for his first goal of the season. Jacob Minicozzi and Dylan Mazal assisted on the game-winner, and the crowd responded loudly. With 0:20 left in the period, Declan Caine scored shorthanded off a Sean Feeley assist to make it 2-0, swinging momentum further toward Sachem.
Sachem added to its lead early in the third. Courtney McIntyre converted a rebound off a Joseph Ilg chance with 14:48 remaining for a first goal of the season, drawing another big reaction from the stands. Feeley, who entered with three points in his only game, made it 4-0 with 7:59 left, set up by Brett Carley and Ilg. Feeley finished with a goal and an assist, beating defenders with his skill throughout the night. Ilg also had two assists, generating steady offense and winning faceoffs cleanly.
Sachem was disciplined positionally in the neutral zone in the third period, limiting Northport/Huntington’s chances, and Jake Dipietro stepped up to break up rushes. Max Higbee took the loss for Northport/Huntington, which fell to 1-2-0-0. Sachem improved to 1-1-1-0 and will try to build on its first win of the season.
