Dylan Simone scored two goals and added five assists, Anthony Seguna recorded a hat trick, and Sachem routed West Islip 14-3 on Sunday night at The Rinx – North Rink. Sachem scored seven times in the first period and improved to 2-0-0-0, while West Islip fell to 1-1-0-0.
Sachem’s speed and forecheck controlled play from the opening shift. Zachary Hesse opened the scoring with 11:55 left in the first, and Seguna quickly made it 2-0. James Aspetti answered to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Sachem scored the next five goals of the period, with seven different players finding the net before intermission.
John Moody restored the two-goal cushion, and Roman Cruz added what stood as the winner with 6:45 left. William Trapani produced the highlight of the period with 5:39 remaining, dancing between two defenders before finishing on his forehand. Christian Pena followed with an unassisted goal, and after an extended scramble in front of the West Islip net drew applause from the crowd, Simone made it 7-1 with 1:05 left.
The second period followed the same pattern. Simone scored again early, Moody added his second, a top-shelf wrister from the point, to make it 9-1, and Pena made it 10-1. Jake Raineri gave West Islip its best moment, finishing a 2-on-1 with a hesitation move off a feed from Joseph Soulos. Seguna, Trapani and Seguna again scored over the rest of the period, and Seguna completed his hat trick with 57 seconds left to make it 13-2.
With a running clock in the third, Ryan Rutigliano threaded a power-play shot through traffic for a 14-2 lead with 11:00 left, shortly after Raineri was called for cross-checking. Aspetti closed the scoring with his second goal of the night on a deflection with 7:30 remaining, and Sachem spent the final minutes holding possession and slowing the pace.
Simone, who entered with three points, more than doubled that total in one night. Trapani had two goals and three assists after a four-point opener, and Seguna finished with three goals and two assists. Pena and Cruz each had three points, Hunter Diperi added two assists, and nine Sachem players recorded a point. Michael Walsh started and earned the win for Sachem, allowing one goal, and Logan Martinez allowed two in relief. Sean Murphy took the loss for West Islip, allowing 14 goals.
Sachem carries its unbeaten start into its next game, while West Islip looks to regroup after its first loss.
