Sachem scored six goals in the first period and never let Longwood back into the game, rolling to an 11-3 win Wednesday night at The Rinx – North Rink in Hauppauge. Dylan Simone recorded a hat trick, and eight different players scored for Sachem, which improved to 3-0-0-0. Longwood, playing undermanned, fell to 1-1-1-0.
The rout began early. John Moody opened the scoring with 14:32 left in the first, and Justin Horrmann followed 30 seconds later to make it 2-0. Christian Pena and Horrmann then scored 19 seconds apart. Horrmann’s second goal, with 10:20 left in the period, held up as the winner, and the pair were his first two goals of the season after he entered the night without a point. Simone added two goals before intermission, including one with 31 seconds left, to send Sachem to the room up 6-0. Sachem’s passing was quick and efficient throughout, and its scoring came from several lines.
Anthony Seguna made it 7-0 with an unassisted goal midway through the second. Longwood answered 34 seconds later when Jeremy Maresca stripped the puck and squeezed a shot past Michael Walsh, also unassisted. Any lift from that goal didn’t last. With Sachem killing a penalty, Hunter Diperi got a shot away and placed it under the bar for a short-handed goal and an 8-1 lead. Justin Hunter then scored with three seconds left in the period to make it 9-1.
Simone completed his hat trick with 12:45 left in the third, and William Trapani, who had been quiet to that point, pushed the lead to 11-1 with 2:57 remaining. Trapani finished with a goal and three assists and entered the night with nine points in two games. Simone, who came in with 10 points, had all three of his goals in this one. Tyler Anderson added three assists and Roman Cruz had two, as 12 Sachem players recorded at least a point.
Walsh started in goal for Sachem and earned the win, allowing one goal before Logan Martinez came on in relief in the middle of the second period. Walsh made a highlight-reel stop on a breakaway, and Martinez was composed after taking over. Mark Nocerino took the loss for Longwood, allowing 11 goals, though he made several sprawling pad saves while under steady pressure.
Longwood kept pushing to the final horn. Maresca scored again with 2:01 left and then set up Christopher Ballaro with 1:06 remaining, and the crowd was audible during the push. Maresca finished with two goals and an assist. Ballaro, who grew into the game and drew a penalty earlier, made sure he got onto the score sheet.
Sachem now turns its attention to a marquee meeting with defending back-to-back champion St. Anthony’s.
