Connetquot/Sayville/BBP Gold (DV) broke a 3-3 tie with three third-period goals to beat Northport/Huntington Gold (DV) 6-3 on Saturday at The Rinx – North Rink. Raymond Rusielewicz III led the way with two goals and an assist, and James Uettwiller scored the game-winner with 9:09 left in regulation.
Northport/Huntington took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission on Monalina Bathe’s even-strength goal with 6:14 left in the first period. Luigi Faltings and Gabriella Zielinski assisted. The opening period was tight and low-scoring, which made the scoring that followed even more striking.
The second period produced five goals. Rusielewicz tied it unassisted with 5:35 left, and Domenik Gesseck put Connetquot/Sayville/BBP ahead 2-1 just 33 seconds later, with his brother Jake Gesseck assisting on Domenik’s first goal of the season. Bathe answered with 2:54 left, again set up by Faltings, for her second goal of the night after she went without a goal in Northport’s first two games.
Rusielewicz restored the lead with a short-handed goal with 1:12 left, assisted by Ryan Aiello, but Northport/Huntington had a response. Dominic Galati tied it 3-3 with 33 seconds left in the period, assisted by Brady Herman and Carter Ames. Noah Martin started in goal for Connetquot/Sayville/BBP and allowed one goal, and one of his stops through a pressure sequence drew a loud reaction from the crowd.
Uettwiller finished a sharp passing play from Domenik Gesseck and Maddox Bermudez to make it 4-3, earning his first point of the season. Bermudez was a steady presence in possession and transition throughout. Trailing by one, Northport/Huntington pulled David Coiscou for an extra attacker in the final minutes, and Jace Orfanos scored into the empty net with 1:00 left. Edwin Ramirez closed the scoring with a well-placed backhand with 20 seconds left, assisted by Rusielewicz.
Grant Kauter came on in relief and earned the win for Connetquot/Sayville/BBP, allowing two goals. Coiscou took the loss after allowing five. Connetquot/Sayville/BBP improved to 2-0-0-0, while Northport/Huntington fell to 0-3-0-0 and will look for its first win of the season next time out.
