Rucks2Pucks captured the Division C Championship on Sunday at Al Arbour (Blue) Rink, defeating the NYPD Detectives 8-5 in a rematch of Saturday’s meeting, which the Detectives had won 9-6. The victory completed a weekend series split and gave Rucks2Pucks the title after entering the day with a 2-1 record against the Detectives’ unbeaten 3-0 mark.
Robbie Cameron set the tone just 15 seconds into the first period, opening the scoring and giving Rucks2Pucks early momentum they never relinquished. Chris DeAngilis powered the offense throughout, finishing with a hat trick and five points on three goals and two assists, including a power-play strike at 6:33 of the first period and a third-period tally at 10:19 that padded the lead. Matt Clancy also factored heavily into the win, scoring twice – including the eventual game-winner at 11:43 of the third period – to go with two assists for a four-point night.
The Detectives clawed back behind Danny Demarco, who scored twice, and Joseph Cutaia and Kevin Schroeder, who each found the net once in the third period as NYPD tried to trim the deficit. But Austin Savage’s goal, which pushed the Rucks2Pucks lead to 5-1, proved costly for the Detectives to overcome, and George Antzoulis and George Bravo each chipped in two assists in the losing effort. Sean Dykes picked up the win in goal for Rucks2Pucks while Danny Schroeder took the loss for NYPD, with the Detectives never able to complete their comeback despite staying within two or three goals for stretches of the contest.
With the win, Rucks2Pucks closes the tournament as Division C champions, flipping the script on a Detectives squad that had looked to be building toward an undefeated run through the weekend.
