The Ugly Pucklings improved to 2-0 on the season with a 5-1 win over Flower City (E) on Saturday at Northwell Health Ice Center, getting two-goal efforts from both Nick Pereira and David DuVal.
Nick LaTorre opened the scoring just 10 seconds into the game, unassisted, to give the Ugly Pucklings an early lead. Nick Pereira made it 2-0 at 4:07 with the eventual game-winning goal, assisted by Mike Gandolfi. Flower City (E) answered through Mark Hansen, who scored unassisted at 7:51 to cut the deficit to one, but David DuVal restored the two-goal cushion at 10:39 with an assist from Steve Nicola, sending the Ugly Pucklings into the second period up 3-1.
Flower City (E) could not find another response in the third period. Pereira netted his second of the game at 10:43 off a feed from Jay Badder, and DuVal capped the scoring with an unassisted goal at 0:43 to complete his multi-goal night and seal the 5-1 final.
Mark Hansen’s goal was the lone offensive output for Flower City (E), who dropped to 1-1 on the season after opening with a win. The Ugly Pucklings, meanwhile, got contributions spread across their lineup, with Gandolfi, Nicola and Badder each recording an assist to go along with the four different goal-scorers.
Both clubs will look to build on this result as the summer schedule continues.
