FDNY EMS erased an early deficit and held off a persistent Boston Warriors (C) squad on Saturday, August 8, winning 6-5 at Northwell Health Ice Center. Patrick Colgan led the way with a hat trick, scoring in each period to key the comeback and secure FDNY’s first win of the season.
Boston jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 8 seconds into the second minute of play when Brian Winters scored at 11:54 of the first period, assisted by Mason Ralph. FDNY answered quickly, with Aj Boleme and Colgan scoring 37 seconds apart to flip the lead before Ralph and Tyler Hicks each struck for Boston to push the Warriors back in front 3-2 after one period.
The middle frame saw both sides trade blows again. Colgan tied it at 14:46, only for Hicks to restore Boston’s lead with his second goal of the night at 6:43. Dylan Nuzzi, assisted by Kieran McGovern, evened the score once more late in the period, setting up a tense final 20 minutes with the game deadlocked at 4-4.
Ryan Young gave Boston a brief lead early in the third period on a feed from Ralph, but FDNY answered decisively down the stretch. Colgan completed his hat trick at 8:51, assisted by Dylan DePellegrin, and just 15 seconds later Jake Piacenti buried the game-winner unassisted to put FDNY ahead for good. Mason Ralph finished with three points (1G, 2A) for Boston in the losing effort, while Josh Callender took the loss in net and Peter Ferro earned the win for FDNY.
FDNY EMS will look to build on this comeback win as they continue their season, while Boston Warriors (C) will aim to bounce back after their first setback.
