The NYS Troopers picked up their first win of the LI Warriors Summer Shootout on Saturday, holding off F-Troop 4-3 at Northwell Health Ice Center in a back-and-forth battle between two public-safety squads — Nassau County PD and NY State Troopers.
Christopher Kane got the Troopers on the board just 28 seconds into the first period, but F-Troop answered late in the frame when Connor Young buried a feed from Dougherty at 14:43 to tie it 1-1. The Troopers took control in the second, with Jeffrey Sumcizk converting a Matthew Cicchetti assist to make it 2-1 before Tim Regan tied things again on the power play at 6:11. From there, the Troopers pulled away quickly — Paul Sabo scored off a Sumcizk assist, and just seconds later Matthew Cicchetti buried what proved to be the game-winner, assisted by Kane, to make it 4-2 heading into the third.
