The NYPD Detectives punched their ticket to the Division C championship game with an 11-4 semifinal victory over the Boston Warriors on Sunday at Bill Torrey Rink. George Antzoulis and Danny Demarco each posted hat tricks to lead an offense that spread scoring across eight different players, continuing a dominant tournament run for the unbeaten Detectives.
NYPD entered the game 3-0 and wasted little time building on that form. Danny Carbone opened the scoring at 11:57 of the first period with an assist from Antzoulis, and Demarco answered with an unassisted goal at 1:03 to help the Detectives take control early. Boston’s Jake Lavery briefly countered with a goal off a Jason Gillette assist, but the Warriors could not keep pace as the period wore on.
The second period turned into a showcase for NYPD’s depth. Demarco scored twice in a span of 19 seconds — first unassisted at 9:19, then with helpers from George Bravo and Matt Crafa at 9:38 for what proved to be the game-winning goal. Rob Carbone and Joseph Cutaia each factored into multiple scoring plays during the frame, with Cutaia notching two goals of his own, while Nick Tauken also found the net to help NYPD pull away. Boston’s Lavery scored again at 6:04, but the Warriors could not match the Detectives’ pace, falling behind 8-2 by the end of the period. Danny Schroeder earned the win in goal for NYPD, allowing four goals, while Boston used both Josh Callender (five goals against) and Stephen Dobbs (six goals against) between the pipes in the loss.
Antzoulis capped his hat trick early in the third period with a goal assisted by Tauken, pushing the Detectives’ lead further out of reach. Boston’s Tyler Hicks and Brian Winters scored late to add some respectability to the final score, but the outcome was long decided. With the win, NYPD Detectives advance to face Rucks to Pucks in the Division C Championship.
