Northport-Huntington Wins Third Straight
HAUPPAUGE N.Y. (LISN) – Sophomore Owen Karpioch scored twice including the game winner to power the Northport-Huntington Tigers to a 5-3 victory over the Middle Country Cougars. Junior Brett Kostor picked up his second win in as many starts for the Tigers. Andrew Martens made his second start of the season for the Cougars.
Karpioch scored his first career varsity goal on the power play with 10 seconds left in the opening frame to give Northport-Huntington a 1-0 lead. The lefty winger entered along the right wing, cut in towards the slot, and beat a sliding Martens glove side.
Senior Joe Boeckmann buried a rebound with 4:47 left in the second stanza to make it 2-0. Less than a minute later, Senior Andrew Iannaccone scored his first career varsity goal to make it a one goal game. Iannaccone won a race to the puck along the left wing wall, and sniped five-hole.
Senior Harold Stauffer scored his first career varsity goal to tie the game with 2:01 left in the 2nd period. Stauffer fired an off angle shot from the goal line to score five-hole.
Senior James Corr scored his first career varsity goal with 30 seconds remaining in the 2nd period to give Northport-Huntington a 3-2 lead. Sophomore Justin Cahn made a cross-crease pass to Corr, who scored from the back door.
Karpioch scored the eventual game winner, his second of the night, with just two seconds remaining in the second frame to make it 4-2. Junior Ryan Collins walked in, dangled past the defense, and moved it to Karpioch who beat Martens on a shot from beneath the left wing dot.
Senior Lukas McDowell scored his first career goal with 11:22 left to make it a 4-3 game. Stauffer won a race to the puck to create a two on none, and moved it to the backdoor for McDowell who went top shelf.
Senior J.T. Caruso intercepted a pass with 1:02 remaining in the frame before scoring an unassisted goal, his sixth of the season, to make it 5-3. Caruso was brought down by McGee, maintained possession of the puck, and got up from his knees before sniping stick side high to seal the deal.
