St. Anthony’s Gold (JV) blanked St. Anthony’s Black (JV) 4-0 on Friday at The Rinx – North Rink, riding a three-goal third period to pull away after a scoreless opening frame. Declan Heffernan turned in a shutout in net for Gold, improving his team to 4-1 on the season.
Jeffrey Grasso broke the deadlock with an unassisted goal at 10:05 of the second period, which stood as the game-winner. Gold entered the third period with a slim 1-0 cushion but blew the game open, getting goals from Nicholas Busa at 14:37 and 2:00, sandwiched around a tally from Benjamin Caraher at 6:22. Busa’s two-goal night pushed his scoring pace further, as he came into the contest having already piled up 11 goals and 15 points through four games, and Grasso added an assist on Busa’s final goal to finish with a goal and an assist on the night.
Nicholas Tempone took the loss in net for St. Anthony’s Black (JV), which dropped to 0-4 on the season. Eamon Sullivan’s minor at the very start of the first period was one of just three penalties called in the game, with Antonio Chong and John Iwankiw each picking up minors for Gold in the second period.
The result mirrors Gold’s earlier win over Black this season, a 3-1 decision back in February, as the rivalry series continues to favor Gold. With the season winding down, Gold will look to keep climbing while Black searches for its first win.
