Mason Nasta scored three goals and Gavin McCormack piled up five points as Smithtown/Hauppauge Blue (DV) blanked Kings Park/Commack Gold (DV) 10-0 on Saturday at The Rinx – North Rink. The win kept Smithtown/Hauppauge unbeaten this season, improving to 12-0, while Kings Park/Commack fell to 3-6.
Matthew Benstock opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the game on a power play, assisted by Nasta, and the rout was on from there. Smithtown/Hauppauge poured in four more in the second period, getting goals from Luke Jarrett, Benstock again, Ryan Leicht, and Nasta, to take a 5-0 lead into the third. The third period brought no relief for Kings Park/Commack, as Nasta completed his hat trick, McCormack scored twice — including a shorthanded goal at 00:09 — and Joseph Jaquillard also found the net.
McCormack’s five-point performance included two goals and three assists, with Colin Juarbe chipping in two helpers of his own. Sean Wohlgemuth earned the shutout in goal for Smithtown/Hauppauge, with Alexander Vachula also seeing time and keeping Kings Park/Commack off the scoreboard. Connor Friedman took the loss in net for Kings Park/Commack, allowing one goal before Jagen Simon finished out the game, surrendering nine.
The result extended Smithtown/Hauppauge’s dominance in the series, following a 5-1 win on Oct. 30 and a 7-0 shutout on Feb. 21 earlier this season. With just a handful of games remaining on the schedule, Smithtown/Hauppauge Blue continues to look every bit the class of the league, while Kings Park/Commack Gold will look to regroup down the stretch.
