Cam Minardi scored five goals and finished with five points to lead Southampton (FR) to a 10-1 rout of Connetquot/Sayville BBP Red (FR) on Monday at The Rinx – North Rink. The Whalers built a 3-0 lead after one period and never let up, adding four more in the second and three in the third to complete the blowout.
Minardi’s hat trick came with milestone numbers attached — his five-goal, five-point night pushed him well past his 28-goal, 37-point mark entering the contest. He opened the scoring at 8:26 of the first period unassisted, then capped a three-goal first period with a tally at 0:43 assisted by Declan McNamee and Evan Goldstein. He added a goal in the second period off a McNamee assist, then closed out the game with two more in the third — the second coming with just over a minute remaining to make it 10-1. Aidan Dangelo also scored in the first period for the game-winner, an unassisted tally at 6:19.
Southampton’s depth showed throughout, with Martin O’Sullivan contributing two goals and two assists for a four-point night, and McNamee finishing with a goal and two assists. Kevin Kretz and Hunter Harrington also factored into the scoring column, with Harrington picking up two assists. Nicholas Fielding scored Connetquot/Sayville’s lone goal at 6:33 of the third period, assisted by Jaxon Volpe, spoiling Scott Armusewicz III’s bid for a shutout in goal for Southampton. Jake Degenfelder took the loss in net for Connetquot/Sayville, allowing 10 goals.
The win improved Southampton to 11-6 and lifted the club into fifth place in the standings, avenging a 4-3 loss to Connetquot/Sayville back on Nov. 15. Connetquot/Sayville, now 9-10, will look to regroup as the regular season winds down with just a handful of games remaining for both clubs.
