Kenny Lockard and Anthony Spina each delivered hat tricks Saturday at Northwell Health Ice Center, but neither could push his team to victory as Draft Team and Long Island Warriors – Green skated to a 5-5 tie. Both clubs entered the night at 0-1, and the result left them still searching for their first win of the summer slate.
Lockard opened the scoring at 17:48 of the first period on an unassisted goal, but Howie Silverstein answered for Draft Team just before the midway point of the frame, finishing a feed from Rachel Bonn. The second period turned into Lockard’s showcase as he struck twice more — first with helpers from Jay Diaz and Casey Coggins, then again on a feed from Antonio Carreras — while Tom Keenan added his own goal on an assist from Kyle St. John. Keenan’s marker extended his strong start to the season, building on the two goals he posted in his opener. Draft Team stayed within range thanks to Jose Bravo and Spina, who capped the period with a goal set up by Patrick Lanciotti and Bravo.
Spina took over in the third period, scoring twice more — at 7:10 off a Lanciotti-Bravo combination and again with 44 seconds left, this time assisted by Lanciotti and Erich Lange — to complete his hat trick and pull Draft Team level. Diaz answered for Warriors Green in between, converting a Sandee Guarin assist at 5:45 to keep the score tied. Lanciotti finished with three assists on the night, while Bravo posted a three-point performance with a goal and two helpers.
Austin Basil took the loss column tie in net for Warriors Green, allowing five goals. The two lone penalties of the game, both on Draft Team’s Robert Alonso and Joel Koos, came in the third period but did nothing to slow the scoring pace. Both clubs will look to shake off the slow starts to their seasons when they return to action.
