Holy smokes, the Liberty Flames just put on an absolute clinic at Twin Ponds Arena, dismantling Penn State Harrisburg 7-3 to complete a perfect weekend sweep. After taking Friday’s opener 3-1, these Flames came back on Sunday and turned up the heat even more, dropping seven goals on a shell-shocked Nittany Lions squad that probably wished they stayed home for the weekend.

This was supposed to be a David vs. Goliath situation coming into the weekend. Penn State Harrisburg entered with a respectable 9-7 record through 16 games, while Liberty’s M3 squad was just getting their season started at 1-0. But apparently nobody told the Flames they were supposed to be intimidated, because they just went out there and played like they owned the place two nights in a row.

The scoreline tells the whole story here – this wasn’t some back-and-forth barn burner that could’ve gone either way. Liberty jumped all over Penn State early and never let up, turning what should’ve been a competitive ECHC matchup into a straight-up rout. When you’re putting up seven goals on the road, that’s a statement game right there.

For Penn State Harrisburg, this has to sting big time. You’re sitting pretty with a winning record, then some upstart Liberty team rolls into your building and just absolutely works you over for 120 minutes of hockey across two games. That’s the kind of weekend that makes coaches question everything and has players staring at the ceiling instead of sleeping.

Credit where it’s due though – Liberty came to play from the jump. Their M3 program might not get the same headlines as the big boys, but they just proved they can hang with anybody in the ECHC when they’re clicking on all cylinders. Two games, two wins, 10 goals scored – that’s how you make a first impression.

The Flames head home riding sky-high after this dominant road sweep, while Penn State Harrisburg gets to spend the week figuring out what the hell just happened to them. Sometimes hockey is beautiful, sometimes it’s brutal – this weekend was definitely the latter if you were wearing Penn State colors.
