The Long Island Warriors – White edged DSNY Hockey 6-5 on Friday at Northwell Health Ice Center in a back-and-forth affair that saw the two sides trade the lead throughout. Kieran was the story of the night, setting up five different goals without scoring one himself to finish with a five-point performance.
DSNY got on the board first when McGrath scored unassisted at 8:38 of the first, but Ryan made it 2-0 for the visitors just 26 seconds later with an assist from Jollon and McGrath. The Warriors answered before the period ended, as Menig buried a feed from Cetola and Kieran at 10:52 to cut the deficit. The second period belonged to Long Island early, with Quinlan scoring unassisted and Menig notching his second of the game off another Kieran assist to give the Warriors a 3-2 edge. DSNY responded with goals from Doyle, which proved to be the eventual game-winner, and Snell to retake a 4-3 lead heading into the third.
The third period turned into a shootout of its own. McGrath scored his second of the night at 7:45, assisted by Devine, to push DSNY’s lead to 5-3. But the Warriors rallied late, with Rossi scoring off a Clinch assist and Cetola finishing off a feed from DeRose to tie the game and eventually seal the 6-5 victory. Cetola finished with a goal and three assists for four points, while Menig’s two goals paced the Warriors’ offense. For DSNY, McGrath’s two-goal, one-assist effort led the way, with Panettiere, Aiello, and Jollon each contributing two points.
Both teams will look to build on this high-scoring contest as the LI Warriors Summer Shootout continues.
