The Steamfitters cruised to an 8-1 win over the NYS Troopers on Friday at Northwell Health Ice Center, with Kenny Wright orchestrating the offense in a five-point performance. Wright finished with a goal and four assists, setting up teammates all over the ice while adding one of his own in the third period.
NYS Troopers grabbed an early lead just 28 seconds into the game when Paul Sabo scored off a Mike Messina assist. The Steamfitters answered quickly, as Kevin Wright found the back of the net at 4:05 of the first period with an assist from Mike Kirk, and the response snowballed from there. The Steamfitters took control in the second period with three unanswered goals, including the game-winner from Zach Josepher at 13:24, assisted by Patty Condon and Kenny Wright, along with tallies from Tommy Condon and Luke Reilly.
The third period saw the Steamfitters pull away for good. Kevin Wright notched his second goal of the game at 4:10, followed less than a minute later by Kenny Wright’s unassisted goal. Tommy Condon added his second of the night at 2:54, and Evan Castellan closed the scoring at 1:27 with an assist from Willie Shields. Kevin Wright and Tommy Condon each finished with two goals, while Josepher chipped in a goal and two assists.
Steamfitters goaltender Jerry Gioia earned the win, allowing one goal, while Christopher Kane took the loss for the Troopers after allowing seven. The Steamfitters will look to build on this dominant offensive showing as they continue through the LI Warriors Summer Shootout schedule.
