Joseph Kelly scored four goals and added an assist, Christopher Lundrigan recorded a hat trick, and St. Anthony’s (FR) scored nine times in the second period to beat Longwood White (FR) 12-4 on Saturday at The Rinx – North Rink. St. Anthony’s improved to 2-0-0-0, while Longwood White fell to 1-1-0-0.
Severe regional weather, including power outages and flooding, left Longwood White with only five or six skaters against a full St. Anthony’s roster. Longwood still led after the first period. Kelly opened the scoring on a 2-on-1 with 14:15 left in the first, but Grady Craig tied it from Cayden Sobarzo with 9:27 remaining, and Dylan Demarco finished a Craig feed with 8:11 left to put Longwood ahead 2-1 as its supporters cheered on the small group.
The game turned on the St. Anthony’s penalty kill early in the second. Abraham Akgun, who spent much of the first period serving a 10-minute equipment misconduct, tied the game 2-2 with a short-handed goal from Aidan Mathers and Kelly with 12:39 left. Marc Parente followed with an unassisted short-handed goal 12 seconds later for a 3-2 lead.
St. Anthony’s then scored four goals in 52 seconds. Akgun scored from Brandon Lendino with 6:31 left, Kelly added the game-winner from Nicholas Somma at 6:21, Somma scored from Parente and Rhys Davi at 5:55, and Kelly completed his hat trick unassisted with 5:39 remaining. Lundrigan made it 8-2 from Mathers with 3:39 left, and Kelly’s unassisted fourth goal with 2:36 left made it 9-2.
John Lechmanski joined Longwood as a sixth skater late in the period and scored shortly afterward, from Craig with 1:23 left. Somma answered 23 seconds later from Davi for a 10-3 lead after two. Lundrigan scored twice in the third, one on a breakaway. He scored from Akgun with 14:00 left and then completed his hat trick with an unassisted short-handed goal with 9:45 remaining.
Craig closed the scoring unassisted with 2:22 left and finished with two goals and two assists, a point on all four Longwood goals. Kelly had no points through his first game and finished with five in this one. Akgun and Somma each added two goals and an assist. Noelle McCarthy earned the win, allowing four goals, and her stop on Craig drew applause. The crowd also applauded Liam Ricciardi’s early saves for Longwood, and he took the loss.
St. Anthony’s will look to stay unbeaten, and Longwood White will hope for a fuller bench in its next game.
