Jason Karbot recorded two goals and an assist to lead Kings Park Commack Freshman Black to a convincing 5-2 victory over Northport Huntington Freshman Blue on Sunday at North. Karbot‘s second tally at 6:49 of the opening period proved to be the game-winner as the visitors built an insurmountable 5-0 lead through two periods before the hosts mounted a late rally.
The decisive first period saw Kings Park Commack explode for three goals in less than eight minutes. Karbot opened the scoring at 14:18 with helpers from Austin Tuozzolo and Aiden Marchese, before Cody Resseque extended the lead just 57 seconds later off a Ryan Schwartz assist. Karbot capped the dominant frame with his game-winning strike, assisted by Mason Cohen and Joseph Tuozzolo, as the visitors took firm control despite playing two men short due to early penalties to Jaxson Beal and Finn Reynolds.
Kings Park Commack maintained their stranglehold in the second period as Tuozzolo and Marchese each found the back of the net 80 seconds apart. Tuozzolo’s goal at 6:53 came courtesy of an assist from the red-hot Karbot, while Marchese tallied unassisted at 5:33 to push the advantage to 5-0. The performance was particularly impressive for Marchese, who entered the contest as one of the team’s leading scorers with 12 points in just 10 games.
Northport Huntington finally broke through in the third period with Robert Coiscou and Connor Frey lighting the lamp, but the late surge proved too little, too late. Coiscou, who leads his team in scoring this season, recorded a goal and assist in the loss while Andrew Cohen contributed a helper. The defeat dropped Northport Huntington to 0-19 on the season, while Kings Park Commack improved to 7-12 as they swept the season series between the two freshman squads.
