Cameron Kalberer scored four goals and added an assist for a five-point night, and Dominick Oppedisano matched him with five points of his own as Sachem (VR) routed Middle Country (VR) 11-1 on Wednesday at The Rinx – North Rink. Sachem broke the game open early, scoring six times in the first period alone, and never let up.
Kalberer opened the scoring unassisted at 13:30 of the first period, and Sachem kept the pressure on with goals from Caiden Marcus, James Drago, Kalberer again on the power play, Chase Saunders and Joseph Capece before the period was through. Middle Country’s lone answer came in the second period when Zachary Atkinson buried a goal off assists from Steven Graziano and Harold Stauffer, but Christian Pena restored Sachem’s big cushion moments later. The third period was more of the same as Oppedisano, Kalberer twice more and Nyckie Ress each found the net to close out the rout.
Oppedisano’s five-point night included a goal and four assists, setting up plays throughout the game including feeds to Drago, Kalberer and Ress. Justin Horrmann chipped in two assists as well, helping Sachem spread the offense across nine different goal-scorers. Michael DiGirolamo picked up the win in goal for Sachem, with Scott Loeb also seeing time between the pipes.
The result continues a lopsided series trend between these two programs, with Sachem having also won 11-4 and 9-0 in their previous two meetings this season. Middle Country had entered off a 13-2 win over West Islip in its last outing, but could not carry that momentum into this matchup. With only a handful of games remaining on the schedule, Sachem will look to keep its offense rolling down the stretch while Middle Country regroups.
