Flower City (E) escaped Northwell Health Ice Center with a 3-2 victory over the Long Island Warriors – Green on Friday, August 7, holding off a late push from the home team. Dave Koscielny’s unassisted goal at 10:27 of the third period, assisted by Reggie Orme, proved to be the difference despite Long Island’s best efforts to answer.
Carter Vaisey opened the scoring just 4:52 into the first period, giving Flower City an early lead they would carry into the second. Tom Keenan tied things up for Long Island at 9:47 of the middle frame, but Mike Aydelotte restored Flower City’s lead less than three minutes later, making it 2-1 heading into the third.
The third period brought the drama. Koscielny’s goal at 10:27, set up by Orme, put Flower City back in front by two, but Keenan wasn’t finished. The Long Island forward struck again at 5:12 of the third for his second goal of the night, pulling the Warriors – Green within one and finishing the game with a two-goal, two-point performance. Flower City goaltender Trey Torbitt earned the win, allowing two goals, while Austin Basil took the loss for Long Island after allowing three.
Orme’s two assists paced Flower City’s offense, while the club got goals from three different scorers in Vaisey, Aydelotte, and Koscielny. Long Island will look to build on Keenan’s strong two-goal effort as both clubs continue their summer schedules.
