Farmingdale State College outlasted Indiana University of Pennsylvania 6-4 on Sunday at Twin Ponds Arena, riding a three-goal third period to improve to 3-1-0 on the young season. IUP, now 0-2-0, battled throughout but couldn’t hold off Farmingdale’s late surge.
The teams traded goals early, with IUP’s Kayden Park opening the scoring at 17:19 of the first period on a feed from Sean Ewing, before Jake Paul answered for Farmingdale at 10:17, assisted by Lawrence Lena and Cameron Black. Noah Lavoie put Farmingdale ahead in the second period at 5:13, only for Ewing to tie it back up at 3:34 with helper from Jack Slepetz, setting the stage for a tense final frame.
The third period turned into a track meet. Tierny Recenello opened the scoring for Farmingdale at 18:30, but Emerson Wilson answered on a shorthanded tally for IUP at 16:17. Lavoie restored Farmingdale’s lead on the power play at 15:21, assisted by Lena and Christopher D’Andrea, before Luke Ferazi delivered the eventual game-winner at 3:54 off a Recenello assist. Recenello capped his three-point night with a second goal at 2:45, and Jameson Hahn added a late tally for IUP with 28 seconds remaining, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.
Recenello finished with two goals and an assist to lead all scorers, while Lena tallied three assists and Lavoie chipped in a two-goal effort for Farmingdale. Noah Tloczkowski turned aside 26 of 30 shots in net for the win, while Dillon Martin stopped 45 of 51 shots in a losing effort for IUP. Ten total penalties were called in a physical contest that saw both sides test the penalty kill.
Farmingdale will look to build on its early-season momentum, while IUP searches for its first win of the year.
