Farmingdale State College capped off a dominant season series against Columbia University with an 8-5 victory Sunday night at Buckskill Winter Club, completing a perfect 3-0 sweep over the Lions in ECHC conference play.
The Rams entered the contest riding high with a 16-8 record through 24 games, and they showed why they’ve been one of the conference’s most consistent teams this season. After outscoring Columbia 16-3 in their two October meetings, Farmingdale State faced a more resilient Lions squad that managed to find the back of the net five times – their highest output against the Rams this season.
Columbia, sitting at 8-7 through 15 games, showed improved offensive chemistry compared to their earlier struggles against Farmingdale State. The Lions demonstrated they’ve made significant strides since those lopsided October defeats, turning what could have been another blowout into a competitive affair that kept the Buckskill Winter Club crowd engaged throughout.
The victory extends Farmingdale State’s strong positioning in the ECHC standings as they continue their push toward the postseason. For Columbia, despite the loss, the improved offensive output against a quality opponent like the Rams should provide confidence as they work to build momentum in the second half of their campaign.
With this season series now complete, both teams will turn their attention to other conference matchups as the regular season continues to wind down toward what promises to be an exciting ECHC playoff race.
