Christian Faller scored twice and added two assists, and East Islip (JV) beat Sachem (JV) 8-3 on Wednesday night at The Rinx – South Rink. Luke Leroux matched Faller with four points on a goal and three assists, and East Islip improved to 2-0-0-0 with seven different goal scorers.
East Islip took control early, scoring four times in the first period. Faller opened the scoring with 10:10 left, staying with the puck on a 2-on-1 and finishing off a Leroux feed. Myles Mazzarone made it 2-0 with 7:07 remaining, and Alex Walsh followed less than a minute later, finishing a setup from Justin Bogarowski behind the net for a 3-0 lead.
Sean Feeley got Sachem on the board with 4:05 left in the period, drawing a loud response from the home crowd. East Islip answered with 53 seconds remaining when Rory Straub converted on the power play for a 4-1 edge, which stood as the game-winning goal. Leroux pushed the lead to 5-1 midway through the second before Feeley struck again with 2:15 left in the period, finishing his second goal of the night off a Jacob Minicozzi assist.
Sachem pulled within two early in the third period on a bright moment for its younger players. Joseph Ilg scored his first JV goal with a quick finish on the doorstep with 14:21 remaining, set up by Mason Lovergine’s between-the-legs pass for his first assist of the season. Feeley, who finished with three points, picked up a helper on the play. Zachary Wellman also assisted on Feeley’s first goal and made a key defensive stick play on a strong night.
East Islip then scored the next three goals. Robert Harrison restored the three-goal cushion with 7:10 left on a deceptive, highlight-reel finish and celebrated it with remarkable calm. Faller added a late shot from the point with 4:32 remaining, and Bryan Freisem closed the scoring with 2:14 left for his first goal of the season. Alexander Amorim assisted on both the Harrison and Faller goals.
Joseph Azar allowed three goals and earned the win for East Islip, which followed its 7-6 win over Smithtown Blue with another strong offensive showing. Ryan Bello took the loss for Sachem, which fell to 0-1-1-0 after opening with a 3-3 draw against St. Anthony’s. Sachem will look to build on its third-period push as it continues searching for its first win.
