Fairfield University delivered a statement performance Friday night at Islanders Iceworks, overwhelming previously red-hot Farmingdale State 7-3 in a stunning ECHC conference clash that halted the Rams’ impressive 16-6 start to the season.
The Stags entered the contest with just five games under their belt and a modest 3-2 record, but they transformed the ice into their personal showcase against a Farmingdale State squad that had been one of ACHA Division III’s most consistent teams. The loss marked a rare stumble for the Rams, who had been riding high on the offensive contributions of Luke Ferazi (19 goals, 13 assists in 15 games) and Noah Lavoie (18 goals, 11 assists in 15 games) entering the matchup.
Despite the lopsided final score, several Farmingdale State players managed to find the scoresheet in the losing effort. Jaden Grillo and Donald Pace each recorded two-point nights with a goal and assist apiece, while Lavoie, Ferazi, and Tyler Wodicka each added goals of their own. Joseph Castellano, Luke LaFata, and Lawrence Lena contributed assists in what became a futile offensive push against the visiting Stags.
The defeat proved costly for Farmingdale State goaltender Luke Pavone, who faced a barrage of 30 shots and surrendered seven goals while making 26 saves for an .867 save percentage. The performance represented a significant challenge for the Rams’ defensive structure, as Fairfield exploited numerous scoring opportunities to turn what many expected to be a competitive conference battle into a decisive road victory that could reshape the ECHC standings moving forward.
