DSNY Hockey put together one of the more lopsided offensive showings of the summer, hammering F-Troop 12-6 at Northwell Health Ice Center to pick up its first win of the season. Jace Lombardo paced the rout with a hat trick and five points, while Dom Aiello matched him with a five-point night of his own on two goals and three assists.
The game opened as a track meet, with the teams trading blows through the first period. Chris Ryan got things started at 14:50, but F-Troop answered in a hurry as Dougherty scored twice in a 36-second span late in the frame — sandwiched around a goal from Joseph Cangro — to help stake F-Troop to a share of a 4-4 tie after twenty minutes. Ryan Moran, Mike McGrath and Sean Jollon all found the net for DSNY in the opening period as both teams combined for eight goals before intermission.
DSNY seized control in the second, breaking the deadlock for good. Aiello’s game-winning goal at 8:24 put DSNY ahead to stay, and Lombardo followed just over a half-minute later to make it back-to-back scores. Aiello added his second of the night at 3:42, and combined with McGrath’s and Ryan’s second goals of the game, DSNY turned a 4-4 tie into a commanding 9-6 lead by the second intermission. Connor Fujarski’s power-play goal was the lone answer F-Troop could muster in the period.
DSNY closed the door in the third, getting a goal from Duane Snell before Lombardo capped his hat trick with two more strikes
