Rucks2Pucks used a fast start and a dominant performance from Chris DeAngilis to hold off the Long Island Warriors – Blue 9-6 at Northwell Health Ice Center on Saturday, in a high-scoring affair that saw 15 combined goals. DeAngilis finished with a hat trick and two assists for a five-point game, the headline performance in a contest that saw both teams trade goals throughout.
Rucks2Pucks entered the game 1-0 and improved to 2-0, while Warriors Blue dropped to 0-2. DeAngilis got things started for Rucks2Pucks just 2:29 into the first period, scoring off feeds from Robbie Cameron and Matt Berry, though Warriors Blue answered quickly with goals from Dave Imparato and Alfonso Sessa to help make it a tight opening frame. DeAngilis struck twice more in the second period — an unassisted goal at 11:22 and another set up by Berry and Luke McCullough at 7:30 — while Tom Donaldson, Chris Csabon and Kevin Roberts kept Warriors Blue within range.
The third period turned into a track meet, with six goals scored across the final 20 minutes. Austin Savage and Luke McCullough extended the Rucks2Pucks lead before Robbie Cameron netted the game-winner at 6:46, assisted by DeAngilis, giving DeAngilis his fifth point of the night. Rob Chaffee answered for Warriors Blue at 4:09, but Nick Garcia and Joey Alterman closed out the scoring for Rucks2Pucks in the final minutes to seal the 9-6 win. Donaldson led Warriors Blue offensively with a goal and three assists for four points, while Imparato added a goal and two helpers.
