The Steamfitters continued their unbeaten run through the LI Warriors Summer Shootout playoffs on Sunday, blanking DSNY Hockey 8-0 at Al Arbour (Blue) Rink. Tommy Condon delivered a hat trick, and Jerry Gioia turned in a shutout, stopping all 30 shots he faced, to push Steamfitters to 4-0 on the season while DSNY fell to 1-3.
Steamfitters wasted little time establishing control, scoring three times in the first period. Kenny Wright opened the scoring at 13:29, and Condon answered just 11 seconds later with an assist from Jack Johnson before adding his second of the frame at 2:48 off a Wright feed. Wright struck again in the second period, converting a Dylan Kirsch assist at 6:19 to make it 4-0 through 40 minutes.
The third period was more of the same as Steamfitters pulled away for good. Casey Bartels opened the frame’s scoring unassisted at 14:18, and Condon completed his hat trick with goals at 13:38 and 12:14, the latter set up by Patty Condon. Kirsch capped the scoring at 11:11 with helpers from Willie Shields and Patty Condon, closing out an eight-goal outburst that saw six different Steamfitters skaters register a point. Wright finished with two goals and two assists, while Kirsch added a goal and an assist of his own.
DSNY goaltender Sciornno stopped 22 of 30 shots in the loss, while Joe Walton’s interference penalty in the second period was the lone infraction of the contest for either side. The result mirrors Steamfitters’ 9-2 win over DSNY on August 8, giving them a commanding edge in this season series. Steamfitters will look to keep their perfect record intact as the playoffs continue.
