Joshua Cherny scored four goals and Lucas Welsh added a hat trick as Aviator Hockey 10U T2 TB – Mateichenko beat Brewster 10U T2 TB – Kelly 9-0 on Saturday at Aviator Sports Center. The LIAHL Tier II 10U TB game was the season opener for both teams.
Aviator led 1-0 after the first period, then pulled away with four goals in the second for a 5-0 lead. It added four more in the third to finish the game.
Cherny accounted for nearly half of Aviator’s offense with his four goals, and Welsh’s three gave the pair seven of the team’s nine. Liam Gur and Leonardo Demeo each scored once to round out the scoring. Gur also served the team’s only penalty, a two-minute minor.
Harrison Demeo and Daniel Voronin combined on the shutout. Demeo stopped all seven shots he faced, and Voronin saved all three he saw and was credited with the win. Colin Cummins was assessed Brewster’s lone penalty, two minutes.
Aviator moves to 1-0-0-0 while Brewster starts at 0-1-0-0, and both teams will look to build on their opening games.
