The NYPD Detectives left no doubt in a 11-0 victory over the Boston Warriors (C) on Saturday at Northwell Health Ice Center, piling up goals from eight different players in a wire-to-wire performance. Rob Carbone paced the attack with a hat trick, scoring four times, while Danny Schroeder turned in a shutout in net for the Detectives, who improved to 2-0 in the tournament.
NYPD wasted little time setting the tone, getting on the board just over four minutes into the first period when Andrew Scampoli scored at 10:33 with an assist from Nick Tauken. Sal Lanzafame and Kevin Schroeder added goals before the period ended, and Tauken tacked on an unassisted goal at 5:31 to make it 4-0 after one. The Detectives kept pouring it on in the second, getting goals from Brendan Rizzo, Carbone twice — including a short-handed tally at 2:34 — and Danny Demarco to push the lead to 8-0 by the second intermission.
Carbone closed out his big night with goals at 10:41 and 4:56 in the third period, while Tauken picked up his second of the game at 13:09 with helpers from Lanzafame and Matt Crafa. Tauken finished with two goals and an assist for three points, and Scampoli chipped in a goal and two assists. Boston’s Josh Callender and Stephen Dobbs split goaltending duties, allowing five and six goals, respectively, with Dobbs taking the loss.
The result avenged an earlier 10-1 loss suffered by the Long Island Warriors Blue team to Boston earlier in the tournament, giving the Detectives measure of payback against Boston’s organization. Boston’s C-level squad struggled to generate sustained offensive pressure against a Detectives team that spread the scoring across its lineup and dominated from the opening minutes. NYPD will look to keep the momentum going as they move on to their next matchup in the Warriors Summer Shootout.
